Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte Inspired by Starbucks

· · · ·

If you’ve ever found yourself dreaming about a refreshing yet unique drink that combines the earthy richness of matcha with the vibrant sweetness of strawberries, then you’re in for a treat! Today, I’m sharing a DIY Starbucks-inspired recipe with this yummy and budget-friendly Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte. This delicious drink is not only Instagram-worthy but also an easy way to elevate your at-home beverage game.

I think this strawberry matcha Starbucks recipe will be THE drink of the summer for me! It reminds me of the strawberry milk I loved as a kid, but it’s a grown up version with the nutrients of matcha and fresh strawberries. This iced matcha creamy latte contains all whole food ingredients, and it’s sweetened slightly with maple syrup. Plus, it’s so easy to make; it’s similar to my easy dirty iced matcha latte recipe. I can’t wait for you to try this!

Ingredients

  • Matcha powder
  • Water
  • Ice
  • Milk
  • Fresh strawberries
  • Maple syrup

See recipe card for quantities.

Instructions

First is our homemade strawberry purée. Wash, hull, and chop 3 medium sized strawberries. Add them to a small bullet blender or small Ninja blender with some cold water and maple syrup. Blend until smooth to create a luscious strawberry puree. You can make a double or triple batch and store the excess in the fridge for a few days to make more strawberry matcha lattes later!

Next, let’s prepare our matcha base. Measure out 1 teaspoon of ceremonial grade matcha powder into a drinking glass. Pour a small amount of hot water into the glass. Typically, about 2 ounces of water at around 175°F is ideal. Using a battery operated whisk or a bamboo whisk, whisk the matcha and water together for about 20-30 seconds or until the mixture becomes frothy, smooth, and a vibrant green color. This step is crucial for achieving a creamy texture.

Pour the milk into your Nespresso milk frother. Use the cold froth setting to whip the milk into a creamy foam. If you don’t have a Nespresso frother, a handheld electric frother or a whisk can also do the trick. The goal is to create a foam that is light and airy but still holds its shape when poured over the matcha. Pour some ice and then the cold foamed milk over the matcha layer.

Finally, drizzle the homemade strawberry puree over the cold foam. The strawberry layer will slowly sink through the foam, creating a gorgeous marbled effect and infusing the drink with sweet strawberry flavor. Mix with a straw and your Starbucks inspired Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte recipe is now ready to be enjoyed! The earthy matcha balances beautifully with the sweet, fruity strawberry syrup, while the oat milk foam adds a luxurious creaminess that makes each sip feel indulgent.

Tips and Tricks for the Perfect Latte

  • Matcha Quality: Invest in good quality matcha powder for the best flavor and color. Ceremonial grade matcha is ideal for drinking.
  • Strawberry Variations: If strawberries aren’t in season, you can use frozen strawberries or experiment with other fruits like raspberries or blueberries.
  • Sweetness Level: Adjust the sweetness of your strawberry syrup to taste. You can add more or less maple syrup depending on your preference.
  • Foam Consistency: If your foam isn’t as thick as you’d like, try using a bit more milk and frothing it for a longer period.

Why You’ll Love This Drink

This homemade version of a Matcha Strawberry Latte is not just a treat for your taste buds, but also a healthier alternative to many store-bought beverages. Matcha is packed with antioxidants and provides a gentle caffeine boost, while real strawberries are rich in vitamins and minerals. Milk adds a creamy texture and you can use an unsweetened plant-based milk like creamy oat milk or low-calorie almond milk, making this drink a perfect option for those who are lactose intolerant or prefer plant-based alternatives.

Variations

One of the best things about making your own Starbucks-inspired drinks at home is the ability to customize them to your liking. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different flavors and ingredients. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Add a Vanilla Twist: Add a splash of vanilla extract to the matcha for a subtle hint of sweetness.
  • Oat Like Starbucks: Make this drink more like the Starbucks original by using oat milk instead of dairy milk.
  • Coconut Dream: Substitute milk with coconut milk for a tropical twist.
  • Extra Green: Boost the health benefits by adding a teaspoon of spirulina powder to the matcha blend.

Equipment

I LOVE my Ninja blender system, and it’s the perfect appliance to help make this Strawberry matcha. I also love my Nespresso Aeroccino for frothing the milk, and my handheld frother for making a nice, smooth matcha base. You can find the beer can glass I used right here, and the glass straw is here.
