Best Snack Foods for Weight Loss (+ for simply feeling good!)
Today, I’m diving into the world of snacks – but not just any snacks. I’m talking about those delicious bites that not only support your weight loss goals but also make you feel fantastic. I’ve learned that eating regularly throughout the day has made me feel SO good, as long as I choose nutritious, whole food based, healthy snacks. Here are some of my favourite snack foods for weight loss (or just to feel good)!
Ever since I did my first Gina Livy program in 2022, snacking has taken on a whole new meaning for me. I used to be afraid of snacking throughout the day… was I eating “too many” calories? However, eating regular, healthy snacks has been a very successful tool for my weight loss over the past couple of years. Packaged snacks labeled as “healthy” that you find at grocery stores can have lots of added sugar and strange ingredients. I find making my own snacks with whole foods at home to be the best option! Bonus? You can make a lot of these in advance so that you can easily enjoy them throughout the week.
Here are my Favourite Nutritious Snacks for Weight Loss
1. Crispy Kale Chips
Let’s kick things off with a crunchy delight – kale chips! These bad boys are not only low in calories but packed with nutrients. If you like the crunch of potato chips, these are a good option that are better for you! Toss chopped kale leaves with a bit of olive oil, sprinkle some sea salt, and bake until they’re perfectly crispy. Your taste buds and waistline will thank you!
2. Greek Yogurt Bowl
For a creamy and protein-packed option, indulge in a Greek yogurt bowl. Layer it up with fresh berries, a drizzle of peanut butter, and a sprinkle of seeds or toasted whole grains. It’s like a party in your mouth, and your body will appreciate the protein punch. Get my favourite Greek yogurt bowl recipe here.
3. Nutty Trail Mix
Mix up a batch of your custom trail mix with a variety of nuts like almonds, walnuts, and pistachios. Add in some dried fruits for a touch of sweetness. Portion control is key here, so be mindful of your portion size. Now, you’ve got yourself a snack that’s both satisfying and energy-boosting. The best part? This is a great snack option for when you’re on the go. Pop the mix in a travel-sized container and keep it in your car for when you have the munchies.
4. Sliced Avocado on Whole Grain Toast
Avocado toast isn’t just for brunch! Spread some ripe avocado on a slice of whole grain toast for a delicious snack that’s rich in healthy fats and fiber. Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a bit of heat and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar – it’s a flavor explosion!
If you’re not eating bread, you can opt to put sliced avocado with your favourite toppings onto air fried slices of sweet potatoes. Sweet potato toast is actually SO good! Find my sweet potato toast recipe with topping ideas right here.
5. Homemade Popcorn with Nutritional Yeast
Popcorn is a classic and one of the best snack foods, but why not give it a healthy twist? If you love movie theater popcorn, homemade popcorn is a much healthier option for snack time. Air-pop your kernels and sprinkle them with nutritional yeast for a cheesy flavor without the guilt. It’s a whole-grain snack that’s perfect for movie nights or midday cravings.
6. Chia Seed Pudding
Need a sweet fix? Chia seed pudding is here to save the day. Here’s how to make one of the best snack foods that can also be a great breakfast: Mix chia seeds with your favorite milk, a touch of vanilla extract, and let it set in the fridge. Top it off with fresh fruit, and you’ve got a snack that’s not only delicious but also loaded with omega-3 fatty acids. Milk and chia seeds are also a great source of protein! Get my favourite chia seed pudding recipe right here.
7. Hard-Boiled Eggs with Everything Bagel Seasoning
For a savory snack, boil some eggs at the beginning of the week, peel them, and keep them in your fridge. When you’re ready for an easy snack, cut an egg in half and sprinkle it with Everything Bagel seasoning. It’s so yummy, and a great way to get some protein throughout the day!
8. Celery Sticks with Almond Butter
If you’re looking for crunch with a touch of sweetness, the classic celery sticks with nut butter is a favorite snack! Cut some celery into sticks, and then spread some almond butter (or your favourite nut butter) inside the crevice of the celery stick. You can even add a few dark chocolate chips on top for a more dessert-like indulgence.
