How to Make 2 Ingredient Greek Yogurt Bagels

· · ·

There’s something undeniably magical about a warm, freshly baked bagel… crisp on the outside, chewy on the inside, and ready to be slathered in your favorite toppings. But let’s be real: traditional bagels are a bit of a project. Between kneading, rising, and boiling (yes, boiling!), they’re often more effort than a busy day allows. That’s where this absolute gem of a recipe comes in: 2 ingredient Greek yogurt bagels.

Yes, you read that right. Just two wholesome ingredients, no yeast, no boiling water, no hours of rising time. These 2 ingredient Greek yogurt bagels are not only simple, but they also fit beautifully into a whole food lifestyle. Whether you’re trying to limit a ton of ingredients, sneak in more protein, or just simplify your morning routine, these bagels are about to become your go-to. I’ve been making these for years and they’re SO delicious!

This is a favourite recipe that’s low on calories, high in protein, and also has only two ingredients! If you top them with an egg wash and sesame seeds like I did here, these bagels are technically 4 ingredients, but they’re still SO easy to make. I was inspired by this Easy Bagel Recipe by Skinnytaste and tweaked it a bit by using self-rising flour and a whole egg for the wash.

Are 2 Ingredient Bagels Healthy?

These two-ingredient dough bagels are a lighter, healthier twist on the classic. Thanks to the Greek yogurt, they’re higher in protein and lower in carbs. Plus they’ve got less sodium and fat, too. The best part? You’d never know by the taste! If you use the same ingredients as I do, you’ll be getting 11 grams of protein per bagel at only 171 calories each!

Ingredients

  • Greek yogurt
  • self-rising flour

To make these, all you’ll need is Greek yogurt and self-rising flour: that’s it! If you don’t have self rising flour, you can easily make some by adding 2 tsp baking powder and 1/2 tsp salt to one cup of all purpose flour.

See recipe card for quantities.

If you like the taste of Greek yogurt, you’ll love that these bagels have a slightly tangy taste to them. If you don’t love Greek yogurt, I’ve heard that FAGE yogurt has more of a mild taste and you could give that a try.

Instructions

Mix one cup of Greek yogurt and 1 cup of self-rising flour in a stand mixer using your dough hook. You can also mix by hand, but I love the consistency I can get with my KitchenAid mixer. Your dough should be soft but not too sticky. If it’s too sticky, add a little more flour until you get the right consistency.

Divide the dough into four pieces, roll each piece into a rope, and then join the rope ends to form a bagel shape.

Brush the bagel tops with a whole, beaten egg. Sprinkle the bagels with your favourite topping – I usually use sesame seeds or Everything Bagel seasoning.

Bake at 375 degrees F for 25 minutes, or until your bagels are golden brown. Let them cool slightly and enjoy!

Substitutions

  • Self-rising flour: add 2 tsp baking powder and 1/2 tsp salt to one cup of all purpose flour instead of using self-rising flour

Storage

Store the 2 ingredient Greek yogurt bagels in an air-tight container or bag in the fridge for up to 3 days. You can also freeze them for up to 3 months. However, these bagels are the most delicious right out of the oven!

I love these plain, but you could also spread some cream cheese or your topping of choice. You could get creative with them, and add some cottage cheese and avocado on top for even more protein and some healthy fat! These also taste incredible toasted after being stored in the fridge for a day or two. I love that they’re a great source of protein and so easy to make!
